Achievement

"CCHR has been responsible for a great many reforms. At least 30 [now over a hundred] bills throughout the world, which...would have given psychiatry the power to commit minority groups and individuals against their will, have been defeated by CCHR actions."  - United Nations Human Rights Commission, 1986

CCHR UK is proud of its accomplishments and what it has done to remove and highlight human rights abuses in the field of mental health for over 40 years including:

  • Researching and supporting specialists and other groups who promote ‘natural’ and ‘workable’ solutions for patients using mental health services.
  • Providing support and information about abuses and expenditure waste to legislators and politicians helping them to support changes in legislation resulting in saving money and saving lives.
  • Working with lawmakers to get easier access to workable treatments and prevent the approval and supply of harmful and dangerous drugs.
  • Supplying the media (press, television and radio) with materials that highlight details of abuses, effects of drugs, and lives that have been destroyed or ended in medical trials, experimentation and over-prescription of drugs causing violence and death.
  • Highlighting abuses, filing formal and legal complaints and helping victims to prosecute criminal cases for drug, sexual and physical abuse of patients.
  • Investigating and supporting complaints to the General Medical Council and other regulators to ensure that criminal offenders are either jailed, struck off the medical register or reformed. CCHR files complaints regularly on behalf of the vulnerable and those unable to stand-up to abuses.
