Destroying a Generation of Children
"I have long maintained that the child psychiatrist is one of the most dangerous enemies, not only of children, but also of adults who care for the two most precious and most vulnerable things in life - children and liberty." Dr Thomas Szasz, Professor of Psychiatry Emeritus
Parents are rarely properly informed about the potential risks of the drugs given for psychiatric 'conditions' such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
They are never told that such a diagnosis is not based on sound medical science; that there are 'no tests' to determine that a 'chemical imbalance' exists or that the drugs prescribed to 'treat' this imbalance in their children can cause serious side-effects leading to all sorts of serious consequences, including suicide and death.
Today, more than 20 million children worldwide are prescribed these types of drugs. They can be so dangerous that medicine regulatory agencies in the UK and around the world have issued strong warnings for strokes, heart attacks, aggression, suicide and death.
Stimulants are the most commonly prescribed drugs for ADHD with drugs like Ritalin, Concerta and Adderill. In 2007, the UK's Medicine's and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA) reported 11 deaths linked to Ritalin, the amphetamine-like drug with similar qualities to cocaine. Between 1999 and 2000, the United States reported 186 deaths linked to the same drug.
It is important to report any adverse affects of the drugs your child is prescribed. Without the courageous help of parents, family and friends who have spoken out against this kind of child abuse, CCHR would not have been able to accomplish the many great reforms around the world today.
“How can millions of children be taking a drug that is pharmacologically very similar to cocaine, that is not only addictive, but whose buying, selling, and using are also considered a criminal act?” Richard DeGrandpre, Professor of Psychology
