Drug Treatment
"Doctors have throughout time made fortunes killing their patients with their cures." R.D. Laing, British psychiatrist
In 2010 there were 69.5 million perscriptions for psychiatric drugs in England with 42.7 million perscription items for depression and 8.5 million perscription items for anti-psychotics.
Prescription items for stimulant use on children for ADHD and other behavioural 'disorders' rose to over 867,600 perscriptions, while an estimated 50,000 children recieved antidepressants for bi-polar disorders.
20 million children around the world are prescribed psychotropic drugs and there has been 221 drug alerts and warnings by drug regulators around the world since 1984.
Children are being drugged with stimulants, anti-depressants and anti-psychotics that can cause them to suffer life-threatening diabetes, heart attacks and strokes or drive them to acts of suicide and violence. Tens of thousands of babies are being placed at risk of birth defects because of these drugs.
A recent drug alert issued by the UK's Medicines & Healthcare products and Regulatory Agency (MHRA) warned doctors that women taking antipsychotic drugs during their third trimester of pregancy can cause newborn babies to suffer severe withdrawal systems and irreversable involuntary muscle movements like those seen in Parkinson's Disease, Huntingdon's Disease or Cerebral Palsy sufferers.
