PSYCHIATRIST
To report a criminal offence committed by a psychiatrist contact the police.
Criminal offences would include such things as rape, sexual molestation, fraud.

Any abuse carried out by a mental health nurse should be reported to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

DRUGS & SIDE EFFECTS
Problems and side effects with drugs or medical devices (such as ECT machines) should be reported to the Medicines & Health Care Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

YOUR RIGHTS
CURRENTLY DETAINED IN A MENTAL HEALTH INSTITUTION
If you are currently detained in a hospital under a section 2 or section 3, or the subject of a Community Treatment Order (CTO) you have access to an Independent Mental Health Advocate (IMHA). An IMHA is there to help you understand your rights as well as provide information so you can make an informed decision.
MENTAL HEALTH TRIBUNAL
You have the right to request a mental health tribunal and you have been sectioned and want to be discharged.
The deadlines to apply are:
- 14 days if you’ve been admitted for assessment (‘section 2’)
- 6 months if you’ve been admitted for treatment (‘section 3’)
