Considering the lack of scientific evidence to support the existence of ‘ADHD’ (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), having an awareness month for the so-called psychiatric condition is like having an awareness month for the Emperor’s New Clothes.
It’s been thirty-four years since ADHD was voted into existence by the American Psychiatric Association. It was a show of hands that gave the green light for its inclusion in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). That process for inclusion however is called consensus. It’s not called science.
When all of the psychiatric rhetoric is stripped away, what psychiatrists have done is to redefine various aspects of behaviour as an illness which they claim can be ‘treated’ with drugs. ADHD started out as a childhood disorder represented by children and adolescents who might have had difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or play activities, who might lose things necessary for tasks or activities, who might get easily distracted, or who might talk excessively.
These difficulties, which represent normal behaviour, were redefined by the psychiatric industry. It’s an impressive marketing strategy that may be good business especially for drug manufacturers, but it’s bad medicine. Boisterous, argumentative or disruptive behaviour isn’t a mental illness. Being disorganised, procrastinating and impulsive isn’t an illness either, unless you’re a diagnosing psychiatrist and you’re an unsuspecting member of the public willing to believe the psychiatric narrative.
The pseudoscience used by psychiatric authors in an effort to edit out humanity is blinding. Psychiatrists have duped people into believing that ‘normal’ could be restored through the use of psychiatric drugs to address a ‘chemical imbalance of the brain.’ The idea of such an imbalance has never been proven but has been accepted by many without inspection and without challenge.
There are no scientific tests that can be carried out to support the existence of a chemical imbalance. There are just words, ideas, beliefs, views, assumptions, speculations, opinions and illusions. It’s guesswork that’s being carried out by highly-paid guessers.
Expensive and damaging psychiatric drugs are prescribed to children, adolescents and adults, producing nullifying effects that are hailed as ‘demonstrably effective.’ What has actually happened is a person has been drugged and is exhibiting the effects of a dangerous mind-altering foreign substance in his or her body. It’s tantamount to social control.
While it cannot be denied that some people experience difficulties in life, it’s important to realise that the psychiatric industry and drug manufacturers have formed an unholy alliance that puts business above real medicine. It’s psychobabble, it’s dishonest, and it’s junk science.
Don’t buy the hype. Be fully informed to make that all-important choice for yourself or for your child. You’ll be glad you did it. It might be a choice that prevents you from becoming a life-long psychiatric patient.
